"Composition 1004,"
A composition that has never been produced before is presented in its most pure and authentic form.
It captures the interaction between musicians through their "gestures." It's a memorial, the embodiment of the artist's unwavering musical beliefs.
The work consists of three parts:
Sheet metal
(the base structure of the song)
Book Form
(process of improvisation)
Hand Posture
(musician‘s interaction during the gig)
-
The choice of material is not only for the sake of "passionate" and reckless rule-breaking, but also because metal is like a music stand, and sheet metal serves as a base for the work and carries the content of the music on the stand.
Using the square and circle as the basic visual language, I used a cnc cutter to cut the pattern of note flow, which contains the melodic score of three different instruments.

Use pictorico transparencies to overlay and expose the content.
Once confirmed, start cutting in random combinations.

“It's an experiment, an improvisation, a one-time-only process.”
It's a wild thought to do this, without thinking too much how it will end, but it's also my favorite part of the peice. Even though it was made in a different media, a bridge was built between the jazz and the design.

Musicians communicate with hand gestures instead of words.

The material has also been chosen to be softer, so that you can see the metal itself.
